I’m going to show you how to make a beautiful crochet top that shows off your shoulders!
You can wear it in different ways: off both shoulders, off just one shoulder, or as a round-neck top, depending on how you adjust it. ☺️
Crochet Blouse – Size M
(bust measurements from 31.5” to 43”)
Materials:
- Approx. 170 g (6 oz) of thick cotton yarn (depending on the desired length)
- Crochet hook size 5 mm (US H/8)
- For the edging: approx. 20 g (0.7 oz) of cotton-silk yarn
Stitches Used:
- Chain (ch)
- Double Treble Crochet (dtr)*
- Edging (lacy border / “puntilla” style)
Instructions:
Yoke (Cané-su) Base:
- Foundation: Crochet 128 chains and join with a slip stitch to work in the round.
- First Round: Work 1 double treble crochet (dtr) into each chain. Increase 1 dtr every 10 stitches. By the end of this first round, you’ll have 140 dtr in total.
- Next Rounds: Crochet 5 more rounds of double treble crochet without increases (i.e., 140 dtr each round).
- After finishing the 6th round, fasten off (cut the yarn).
You should now have 140 double treble crochets worked in a circle.
Separating Sleeves and Body:
- You’ll use 56 stitches for the sleeves (28 for each sleeve) and 84 stitches to continue the body.
- To do this, lay the piece flat (front and back will naturally face each other). Place stitch markers or pins to mark 28 stitches for each sleeve (14 from the front, 14 from the back), then join the yarn to the remaining 84 stitches to form the body in the round.
Body:
- Continue working 84 stitches in the round using double treble crochet.
- Rounds 1–5 (Body): Work these 5 rounds in dtr without any increases.
- Round 6 (Shaping): Increase 2 stitches at each side “seam” (4 increases total).
- Rounds 7–10: Work 4 more rounds in dtr without any increases.
This subtle increase helps give the blouse a slightly fitted shape.
Edging (Puntilla) for Body and Sleeves:
- With the contrasting cotton-silk yarn (or your chosen edging yarn), work the following lacy border:
In the same stitch: 2 treble crochets (tr), 2 chains, 2 treble crochets (tr).
Skip 1 stitch, then chain 2, and repeat the sequence. - Continue around all edges (body hem and sleeves).
- With the contrasting cotton-silk yarn (or your chosen edging yarn), work the following lacy border:
Cord (for adjustable neckline):
- With the same size hook, chain 220 stitches to create a cord.
- Weave this cord through the first round of dtr at the yoke, going under and over every two stitches.
- Tie a simple knot at each end of the cord for a neat finish.
Adjust & Style:
Pull the cord tighter to wear the blouse off both shoulders, adjust on one side to wear it off a single shoulder, or loosen the cord for a round neck. Have fun experimenting with different looks! 🧶
Enjoy making your shoulder-showing crochet top, and feel free to get creative with colors and lengths!
